Business Leaders

We strongly encourage business leaders to become more involved in child care and other family-friendly policy issues in their businesses, in their communities, and in their states.

Here in California, Governor Schwarzenegger is clearly influenced by the business community and their priorities. We ask that you make children yours!

If I pay for child care, I can't buy food or pay the rent. I don't know where to put my children. - Marguerite Buck Many employers fail to realize the importance that quality, reliable care plays in the lives of their employees. Ask them! You'll find that most have had difficulty at one time or another getting to work because of a child care crisis.

Things you can do in your business:

Implement or encourage implementation of family-friendly policies such as:

  • Flex-time schedules
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (these allow families to take dependent care costs out of pre-tax income, saving them money)
  • Generous and considerate personal/sick time policies
  • Support for on-site or nearby child care facilities

Things you can do in your community:

  • Inform your local Board of Supervisors that child care is a priority for you and your employees
  • Encourage local officials to support local initiatives that support parents and providers
  • Volunteer to speak with and for Parent Voices or other children's advocacy organization
