Parent Voices combines leadership development, advocacy,
and community organizing in order to increase funding and
improve quality and access to child care. We do this through
trainings, regular meetings, special events, media, and participation
in the political process. Parents are an integral part of
planning and executing everything we do.
We are developing parent leadership through our annual statewide
"Knowledge is Power" parent advocacy trainings (January
20, 2007 in Fresno; January 27, 2007 in Sacramento; February
10, 2007 in the Bay Area; and February 24, 2007 in LA) ongoing meetings with legislators
and policy-makers; opportunities to raise public awareness
through outreach and media stories; and our annual Stand for
Children Day (May 2, 2007) in Sacramento. Since its inception,
Parent Voices parents have testified before legislative committees,
helped draft legislation, organized candidate forums, registered
voters, and encouraged scores of other parents to become active
in Parent Voices.
