Parent Voices #WeReady4ChildCare National Twitter Chat

Apr 7th, 2022

On March 24th Parent Voices hosted an engaging and informative Twitter chat with parents, community members, and organizations ready to upgrade our nation’s handling of child care. Progress is greatly needed, as there hasn’t been a major U.S. investment in child care since WWII.

“This all spikes my anxiety about my ability to work, afford children, & be there for my family. Having children feels like a financial risk that can destabilize my future, especially as a second generation caregiver. It shouldn’t be this way.”

Josephine Kalipeni on Twitter

The chat focused on a set number of open questions ranging from a vision and dream for childcare, to the REAL challenges faced by child care providers and families. The discussion of child care must be tied with a plan for action, and we continue to urge Senators Padilla and Fienstein to sign on the Bicameral letter to President Biden on Supporting Long Term Childcare and Pre-K Investments!

Whether it’s chat member Lily, who had to give up her house and a lucrative job to move in with family after her second child due to lack of child care, Maria Jandres, who got her notary and realtor license thanks to having child care, or April, who balances child care, working and college. We ALL deserve safe, affordable childcare.

Our children can’t wait. The time is NOW for affordable childcare, dignified wages and benefits for child care providers and funding for child care.

Now we want to see your best Rosie the Riveter power pose! All genders welcome. We’ll keep sharing #NextGenRosie to push for child care funding! Tag @ParentVoicesCA, email or upload your photo: https://forms.gle/rLmyq4bWfXJhWZFS6…
