Parent Voices Join Together Around A Story of Hope

Jun 16th, 2022

Members from Parent Voices chapters in Oakland, San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin County joined as a community to watch and celebrate filmmaker Tamara Perkins documentary, “Clarissa’s Battle.” The film is an intimate look at Parent Voices Oakland Executive Director Clarissa Doutherd and Parent Voices Oakland’s fight for child care justice during a 10-year campaign to subsidize child care via a tax increase in Alameda county. The film tells a touching and powerful story about Clarissa and her son while also stressing the importance of community and electoral organizing.

“No matter what your zip code is, no matter what school you sign up to, every single child deserves to have the same quality education.” – Clarissa Doutherd

The film showcased the hard work of Parent Voices members and all parents when it comes to taking care of our families and communities and fighting for child care subsidies. Clarissa is a wonderful example of a mother who does what it takes. Not only for her son, but for her community as well.
